Starting with rev. 14.0.0, the SNMPv3 Agent Service for Linux supports the SNMPv3-FIPS140 mode, in addition to its existing SNMPv3 mode. The SNMPv3 start-up configuration is implemented via the text based configuration file with a template file provided with the product. The SNMPv3 Service for Linux operates over IPv6 / IPv4 networks.
The NuDesign SNMPv3 Service for Linux (SNMP daemon) supports these primary families of Linux distributions: Fedora, RHEL, Debian, Ubuntu & SUSE, 32bit and 64bit versions.
The SNMPv3 Service for Linux provides facility for automated production, mass time installations of unique configurations across the multiple Linux Servers.
NuDesign’s companion product, Visual Embedded xAgentBuilder 9 for C++, a code generator and a core component of SNMP Agent Studio for Desktop Linux generates 32bit and / or 64bit Extension Agent code and builds GNU tools project for any standard or custom MIB. The developer supplies only the final object instrumentation methods code.
The full feature, free eval of Visual Embedded xAgentBuilder 9 for C++ is available for download at NuDesign’s site at www.ndt-inc.com.
Benefits of using NuDesign SNMPv3 Agent Service for Linux
The NuDesign SNMPv3 Agent Service for Linux in conjunction with NuDesign SNMP Agent Studio for Desktop Linux, Extension Agent’s builder tool, provides a comprehensive SNMPv3 Agent solution for Linux Servers and Workstations.
- It supports SNMPv1/v2c/v3 access to MIB objects, implemented as extension subagents in a form of shared object libraries. A full SNMPv3 support is offered, v3 security (CBC-DES, 3DES-EDE-CBC, CFB128-AES-128, CFB128-AES-192 or CFB128- AES-256 privacy and HMAC-MD5, HMAC-SHA or SHA224/256/384/512 authentication) & v3 Admin Framework for Notifications (implements SNMP-TARGET-MIB & SNMP-NOTIFICATION-MIB). In SNMPv3-FIPS140 mode it restricts the use of OpenSSL rev1.1.x crypto modules to only those that are compliant with FIPS-140 standard.
- It provides support for binding of Service to specific addresses that need not be active at start-up. The Service monitors these addresses and when they are found to become active it adds them to the Service transport’s endpoint list.
- It allows Extension Agents to be started or stopped dynamically, without interrupting the Agent Service, with the help of command line interface.
- It supports remote subagents, either the lightweight subagents based on UDP / SNMP BER encoding, or the TCP/IP based subagents using the IETF’s AgentX – rfc2741 standard. The NuDesign SNMPv3 Agent Service can control a network of desktop and / or embedded devices equipped with AgentX subagents.
- It provides full support for all SNMP notification types (v1/v2/v3 traps and informs with callback API that provides Extension Agent status information on sending informs).
- It fully implements SNMP Proxy Forwarder Application as per rfc3413.
- It is implemented as a multithreading, non-blocking Linux SNMP daemon. One thread listens to incoming requests and the other threads are responsible for satisfying the requests.
